Meet Our Comfort Keepers

Meet Our Comfort Keeper Caregivers

We are passionate about helping seniors and their families live happier, healthier lives. Our caregivers, known as Comfort Keepers, provide consistent, compassionate care services to each individual. We only hire people who truly love caring for others.

All of our Comfort Keepers have passed extensive background checks and are continuously educating themselves on the care industry. Our Comfort Keepers are insured, bonded, and covered by workers’ compensation insurance in order to protect our clients and their families.

Rita Whitney

Rita Whitney is the owner of Comfort Keepers of Durham and Chapel Hill. With Rita’s past experience as a compassionate caregiver for family members, her commitment to in-home care and making a difference resonates in everything she does from hiring the correct caregivers to working with family members and clients. Her patience and empathy have been assets when working on very critical issues such as plans of care for our clients. Rita received a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University where she met her husband. Since then she has raised two beautiful children and worked in various capacities using her degree. Prior to purchasing the franchise, Rita cared for an ailing family member for many years which led her to knowing that in-home care was what she wanted to do. She is now able to use her degree and her knowledge of caregiving to manage a successful office and make a difference.

Kelly Reeves

Operations Manager

After graduating with a BA from the University of the South in 1987 Kelly spent many years working in management. However in the late 1990 the path of her life was drastically changed when her mother was diagnosed with a rare, terminal brain disease.  Kelly became her legal guardian and caregiver in the final years of her life. In 2000, after the passing of her mother, a good friend suggested that her personal and business experience would make Comfort Keepers a good fit. Later that year she purchased a Comfort Keepers office in Ft Lauderdale, Fl. This office quickly expanded to include three territories in Broward County, Florida.  She continued to own and operate her business for nine years.  Upon selling her office and after adopting a child,  Kelly returned to school and obtained her Practical Nursing License. After moving to North Carolina, Kelly was happy to have the opportunity to continue with Comfort Keepers in the role of operations manager. Kelly has a deep commitment to the mission of Comfort Keepers.  Her belief in treating clients with dignity and respect as if they are members of her own family is the key to this commitment. As operations manager, Kelly is responsible for many day to day tasks. The one she holds most dear is selecting and inspiring our caregivers to believe in our mission statement. It is her expectation that our caregivers care for your loved ones with compassion and professionalism.

Unique Hayes has been a caregiver with us for almost 2 years. She was just promoted to our office assistant, but will continue working with clients as part of her duties. She loves hearing clients’ stories about their lives and experiences. She has a very bubbly outgoing personality and clients love her. Personally, she just learned to knit and is thoroughly enjoying that. She also loves animals.

Chancey Taylor

I wanted to become a caregiver to care for people when they are unable to care for themselves. The best part of my job is the trust and relationship you develop with each other. My favorite activity to do with my client is helping him pick out things he likes on our weekly shopping trip and sitting on his patio, talking about the places he used to go and things he used to do. I am a friendly and caring person who loves to put a smile on a person’s face. I feel that if I can make you smile, then I have made your day. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children.
